| 551st Transportation Company (Terminal Service) |
| The 551st Transportation Company (Terminal Service), commonly known as "The Pace Setters",came to the 4th Transportation Command (TML C) from Cam Ranh Bay Support Command during March 1967. At their previous location, the unit had been assigned the mission of operating the DeLong Ammunition Pier under the 10th Transportation Battalion (Terminal). Upon arrival in the Saigon area, the unit was assigned to the US Army Terminal, Newport, and charged with the responsibility of discharge and backloading of deep draft vessels at two berths in the Newport complex and operation of four in-transit storage sheds. The unit has handled virtually all types of cargo in its area of operations to include ammunition and refrigerated cargo. |
